Treatment for calluses & corns

Both calluses and foot corns can be very painful if left for too long without treatment. At Podiatry on Pako in Geelong, we specialise in quick and painless removal of calluses and treatment for corns.

What are corns and calluses?

Corns or foot calluses are painful areas of thicker skin caused by pressure and friction. A corn is generally found near bony areas, particularly on and between toes, whereas calluses usually form on the underside of your foot.

Causes of foot calluses and corns

Excessive pressure causes the skin to thicken. This can be protective but it can slowly build up to the point of causing pain. The type of pain depends on the severity of the foot callus or corn, including:

  • Burning
  • Stabbing
  • Dull aches

Treatment for corns and calluses

Both callus and corn can be removed relatively painlessly in one visit. We’ll examine your foot to identify whether you have a callus or corn, both of which can be removed quickly and without pain. Treatment also includes an explanation of how the callus or corn formed and options for ongoing treatments like custom orthotics.

There are simple tips your Geelong podiatrist can recommend to reduce the likelihood of developing calluses, including:

  • Wear well-fitting shoes
  • Always wear socks to prevent excessive friction to your toes and feet
